We hope that everyone is enjoying this long spell of sunshine. We have been covering children in sunscreen and having outdoor play earlier to avoid the hottest part of the day. It was pointed out to me the other day that when choosing a sunscreen, it is important to look at both UVA and UVB protection. UVB is indicated by the sunscreen factor and UVA by the star rating. I was not aware of this and having looked further into it, it is advised for young children to have a UVA star rating of 4 or 5. I have included a link to the NHS guide for further information.
While it is so hot, we would advise that children wear clothing that keeps shoulders and tops of arms covered and avoid strappy tops, as well as bringing hats. Let’s hope the sunshine lasts into the school summer holidays.
